Cargocyte

Congratulations Hua Wei and Christina on your Nature Biomedical Engineering paper!

Paper Title:  Genetically engineered and enucleated human mesenchymal stromal cells for the targeted delivery of therapeutics to diseased tissue.

In this paper Huawei and Christina perform in an depth characterization of Cargocytes, and demonstrate the efficacy of this cell-based therapeutic on both inflammatory disease, using an ear inflammation model, and cancer, using a flank tumor model.  Cargocytes are unique in their ability to both target the delivery of therapeutics to diseased tissue through their ability to home to affected areas, and their in ability to delivery tailored therapeutics, such as anti-inflammatory cytokines. Because Cargocytes lack a nucleus, problems such as stem cell engraftment are avoided. The Cargocyte platform is highly tunable to enhance disease-specific homing capabilities and in vivo therapeutic cargo production, and it is poised to redefine the safety and versatility of cell-based therapies.

We are excited for Huawei and Christina, and for the promise of Cargocytes as a new tool to fight cancer and a range of diseases in a safe, controllable, and effective manner.
