Dr. Klemke


Professor, Department of Pathology and Moores Cancer Center 

Dr. Klemke is Professor of Pathology and Cancer Biology at the University of California, San Diego’s, Medical School and Moores Cancer Center, where he serves as the Director of the Cancer Imaging Network and the Pathology Department’s Proteomics Center of Excellence. He earned his Ph.D. in Cell and Developmental Biology from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. Dr. Klemke was a research scientist at The Scripps Research Institute (TSRI) before joining UCSD and the Moores Cancer Center as Professor of Pathology in 2006. He has been a very active teacher, mentor, lecturer, and consultant in the biotech and pharmaceutical industries for more than two decades, and is the founder of BioSystems Consulting in San Diego.  His laboratory has received numerous federal and private awards to develop novel therapeutics aimed at cancer and to investigate the underlying mechanisms that drive cancer progression.  Dr. Klemke is internationally recognized for his work in cell migration, carcinogenesis, angiogenesis, and chemotherapeutic drug development, using proteomics, computational biology, and unique preclinical animal models of cancer and immunology.  His work has produced novel therapeutics directed at cancer and the immune system and has unlocked newfound insights and concepts that explain how malignant tumors develop, induce a blood supply, avoid immune recognition, and spread through the body.
